THE MEETING
of
THE PLAb^J'iNG CONR4ISSION
Pleasanton, California
October 14, 1964
The regularly scheduled meeting of the Planning Commission was called to order at
5:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 14, 1964, by Chairmen Landon.
ROLL CALL showed the following:
Present: Commissioners Antonini
Johnston
Lozano
Chairman Landon
Secretary Falea
Absent: Commissioner Rega
Upon motlon of Commissioner Lozano, seconded by Commissioner Antonini, the minutes
of the meeting of September 23, 1964, were approved as presented by unanimous vote
of those Commissioners present.
Chairman Landon opened the public hearing on the application of Reno Cairo, 4355
Second St., fora Variance from Section 7.500, Ord. No. 309, in order to allow con-
structlon of a covered patio within the rear and aide-yard setbacks at the above
address in an R-2 District, which was continued from the meeting of September 23,
1964. Mr. False stated that the staff report has not changed from that given at
the meeting of September 23. He read a letter from the staff addressed to Mr. Cairo.
dated September 29, 1964, lncorpoxating the preliminary recommendations of the
Planning Commission. Mr. Cairo has discussed the matter with the staff and had not
been aware of the percentage amount of covered patio. He was unable to be present
at this meeting because of business taking him out of town, but he presented a re-
vised plot plan to the staff which shows a reduced patio area to 8'x20', which does
not totally vitiate the problem of the required 3 ft. setback from the fence line.
It was moved by Commissioner Lozano, seconded by Commissioner Antonini, and carried,
that the public hearing on the above matter be continued to the meeting of Oct. 28,
1964.
Chairman Landon opened the public hearing on the application of J. Jack Brae, 4377
First St., for a Variance from Section 13.500, Ord. No. 3C9, in order to reduce the
front yard setback in connection with an expansion of an existing business located
at 235 Main St., in a C-G District. Mr. False, in giving the staff report, stated
that a reduced front yard setback from LO ft. to 0 ft. !a requested in order to a1-
low a new canopy, similar to the existing canopy on the property, to be placed on
the fmnt property line. This area ie zoned C-G; however, most of the remainder
of Main Street is zoned C-C, in which case no front yard setback is required, and
it may be expected that at some time in the future the subject property may also be
rezoned to C-C. The staff recommends the Variance be granted with four conditions
ae outlined. There being no comments from the audience, it was moved by Commission-
er Lozano, seconded by Commissioner Johnston, and carried, that the public hearing
be closed. After discussion by the Commission, upon moticn o£ Cammicaioner Johnston
seconded by Commissioner Antonini, the following resolution was adopted by unanimous
vote of those Commissioners present:
