M I N U T E S
of
THE MEETYNG
of
T`.'E PLAiVxF,*?& COMMISSION
Pl~ssnnton, California
March 10, 1965
The regularly scheduled meeting of the Planning Commission was called to order at
8:00 P,M., on Wednesday, March 10, 1965, by Chairman Landon.
ROLL CALL showed the following:
Present: Commissioners Antonini
Johnston
Lozano
Rega
Chairman Landon
Secretary Falea
Upon motion of Commissioner Lozano, seconded by Commissioner Antonini, the minutes
of the meeting of February 24, 1965, were approved ae presented by unanimous vote.
Chairman Landon opened the public hearing on the application of Pleasanton Mills,
Inc., P.O. Box 397, Pleasanton, fora Variance from Section 4.500, Ord. No. 309,
in order to construct a mill and storage building with less than the required
side yard setback near the intersection of Mohr and Oakland Avenues, in an A Dist-
rict. Mr. Fales, in giving the staff report, said a Conditional Use Permit had
been granted by the Commission on November 12, 1964, in order to construct a grain
storage facility adjacent to the then existing mill. Subsequent to the approval
of this application a fire destroyed all of the existing buildings on the site. A
Variance ie requested for lot area (required: 5 scree; proposed: 2~ acres), side
yard, and height (proposed: 60 ft.; maximum: 30 ft.; the proposed height is 20 ft.
less than the original structure destroyed by fire). The staff sees no objection
to a Variance being granted with regasd to height. With regard to side yard and
reduced Brea, the presence of the adjacent railroad and the 100-ft, wide railroad
right-of-way obviates the necessity for the normal aide yard setback and creates
considerable open area surrounding Che mill itself. Mr. Douglas was present in
the audience and clarified the height problem, and requested a 25-year time limit
rather than 15 years because of increased cost of construction--$125,000-$150,000
which would have to be written off in 15 years if such time limit is imposed. It
was moved by Commissioner Johnston, seconded by Commissioner Antonini, and carried,
that the public hearing be closed. Mr. Falea stated that because considerable
development 1s expected in the surrounding area in the next five years, the staff
considers the time limit of fifteen years, previously imposed by the Commission in
the Conditional Use Permit, to be adequate. Following discussion by the Commission,
upon motion of Commissioner Antonini, seconded by Commissioner Lozano, the follow-
ing resolution was adopted by unanimous vote:
RESOLUTION N0. 400
WHEREAS, the application of Pleasanton Mills, Inc., P.O. Box 397,
Pleasanton, for a Variance from the let area, building
height and side yard requirements of Ord. No. 309 in order to con-
struct a mill and storage buildings on a cite near the intersection
of Mohr and Oakland Avenues, in an A District, has come before this
Commission;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT
RESOLVED, that the above-named Variance is hereby granted.
Chairman Landon opened the public hearing on the application of Pleasanton Mills,
Inc., P.O. Box 397, Pleasanton, for a Conditional Uae Permit in order to construct
a mill and storage buildings near the intersection of Mohr and Oakland Avenues,
in an A District. Mr. Falea referred to the staff report given above with regard
to the Variance application on the subject property, and also those staff reports
with regard to Conditional Uae Permit No. 64-21, granted on November 12, 1964.
The staff recommends a 15 year time limit. It was moved by Commissioner Lozano,
seconded by Commissioner Antonini, and carried, that the public hearing be closed.
