<br />The regularly scheduled meeting of the Planning Commission was called to order
<br />at 8:10 P.M., on Wednesday, February 8, 1967, by Chairman Antonini.
<br />ROLL CALL showed the following:
<br />Present: Commissioner Arnold
<br /> Johnston
<br /> Plato
<br />Chairman Antonini
<br />Secretary Spink
<br />Absent: Commissioner Carrigan
<br />Upon motion of Commissioner Arnold, seconded by Chairman Antonini, and carried,
<br />the minutes of January 25, 1967, were approved as presented by unanimous vote.
<br />12a. Matters for the Information of the Commission.
<br />The matter to be determined was the rescheduling of meeting of February 22,
<br />1967, due to the holiday. UPON MOTION OF COMMISSIONER JOHNSTON, SECONDED BY
<br />COMMISSIONER ARNOLD, AND CARRIED, IT WAS DETERMINED TO SET THE NEXT MEETING
<br />FOR MARCH 1, 1967, DUE TO THE HOLIDAY.
<br />4a. V-66-S1. Ad-Art, Inc.
<br />Chairman Antonini opened the public hearing on the application of Ad-Art, Inc..
<br />1715 64th Street, Emeryville, for a Variance from Sections 10.202 and 17.705,
<br />Ordinance No. 309, in order to erect an advertising sign in connection with
<br />a neighborhood shopping center at 1755 Santa Rita Road, in a C-N District.
<br />Mr. Spink presented the staff report which recommended approval with the
<br />revision that the Safeway logo be changed to mosaic the to match logo on
<br />the building. Mr. Scales, representing Sssenar Investment Company, was
<br />present in the audience and concurred with the staff report in general; but
<br />asked whether or not the Safeway "S" could be a plastic faced sign, Lit
<br />internally, rather than a mosaic "S" lighted by floodlights. Upon motion
<br />of Chairman Antonini, seconded by Commissioner Johnston, and carried, the
<br />public hearing was closed. After further discussion, upon motion of Com-
<br />missioner Johnston, the following resolution was adopted with the following
<br />vote. AYES: Commiaeioners Arnold, Johnston, Chairman Antonini. NOES:
<br />Commissioner Plato.
<br />RESOLUTION N0. 646
<br />WHEREAS, the application of Ad-Art, Inc., 1715 64th Street,
<br />Emeryville, for a Variance from Sections 10.202
<br />and 17.705, Ordinance No. 309, in order to erect an
<br />advertising sign in connection with a neighborhood
<br />shopping center at 1755 Santa Rita Road, in a C-N
<br />District, has come before this Commission:
<br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT
<br />RESOLVED: that the above-named application be approved with
<br />the plastic Safeway "S", internally lighted.
<br />4b. V-67-1 First Pleasanton Investors.
<br />Chairman Antonini opened the public hearing on the application of First
<br />Pleasanton Investors, 582 Market Street, San Pranciaco, for a Variance from
<br />Sections 17.703 and 17.706, Ordinance No. 309, in order to erect an adver-
<br />tising sign in the southeast quadrant of the U.B. 580, Santa Rita Road
<br />interchange, in a C-T District. Mr. Spink presented the staff report which
<br />recommended approval with stated conditions. Mr. Spink also displayed a
<br />drawing comparing sign areas of the various proposals with existing signs
