MINUTE S PLANNING COMMISSION Pleasanton, California Multi-Purpose Room - Valley View School 480 Adams Court August 28, 1968 The rogu7arly scheduled meeting of the Planning Commission was called to order by Vice Chairman Plato at 8:00 PM. 1. ROLL CALL PRESENT Co®isaioner Arnold Conavissioner Garrigan Commissioner Gibbs Vice Chairman Plato ABSENT Chairman Antonini (due to illness of wife) Secretary Castro 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Upon motion of Commissioner Garrigan, seconded by Commissioner Arnold, and carried, the minutes of the August 14, 1968 meeting were approved as submitted. 6. NEW BUSINESS a. Z-68-51, Evelvn Alcon Application of Evelyn Alcon for a zoning permit to allow erection of a sign at 818 Main Street. Vice Chairman Plato opened the Public Hearing, and Assistant Planner Aiello explained the staff report. Basically, Mr. Aiello stated that the requirements were all met and that the sign would be compatible with the surroundings. Upon motion of Commissioner Arnold, seconded by Coa~mi eei Dort Garrigan, and carried, the Public Hearing was closed. UPON MOTION OF COMMISSIONER ARNOLD, SECONDED BY COMMISSIONER GARRIGAN, THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION WAS ADOPTED BY UNANIMOUS VOTE. RESOLUTION N0. 811 WHEREAS, the application of Evelyn Alcon fora zoning permit to allow erection of a sign at 818 Main Street, has come before this Commission, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that 2-68-51 be approved subject to the following condition: 1. That the permit is granted for the property as described in the application and any attach- ments thereto, and as shown on the attached plan, labeled Exhibit A. b. Z-68-54, Larrv Riera Application for a zoning permit to allow the erection of a sign at 125-C West Neal Street. Vice Chairman Plato opened the Public Hearing. Assistant Planner Aiello read the staff report, which, in essence, stated that the sign design left something to be desired, and that it is incompatible with the signs in the immediate surroundings. He also demonstrated photographs to visibly explain this opinion. Commissioner Gibbs questioned whether the Planning Commission had jurisdiction in the form of ordinance to criticize the appearance of a sign, since the submittal met the required specifica- tions and only failed to meet Planning Department approval on t1.ie grounds of aesthetics. It was noted by Assistant Planner Aiello that the applicant has been very cooperative. After some discussion, it was felt that this matter should be left in the hands of the Planning staff. Upon motion of Commissioner Garrigan, seconded by Vice Chairman Plato, and carried, the Public Hearing was closed.
