shallower explorations along the mainline auxiliary lanes.
The borings will be logged and sampled in accordance with
standard procedures. The samples will be analyzed and
tested using standard laboratory methods and tests.

The resultina data will then be analyzed by geotechnical en-
gineers to determine acceptability of foundations for the
bridge widening and adjacent embankments. The CONSULTANT
shall modify the preliminary Materials Reports to include
the data, analysis, and recommendations resulting from the
supplemental work.

Task 1.2--Liquefaction Investigation

The CONSULTANT shall perform the additional field explora-
tion, laboratory testing, and engineering analysis at the
site of the existing TassaJara Creek bridges.

This investigation will supplement the data provided under
Task 1-1. The purpose of this work will be

1. Verify the loose, saturated, fine-grained cohesionless
soils encountered by Caltrans in their 1963
investigations.

2. Perform additional borings and site reconnaissance to
further define the liquefaction potential of the sub-
surface conditions at the site.

Task 1.3--Wick Drain Investigation

The CONSULTANT shall perform additional field explorations,
laboratory testing, and engineering analysis at the site of
the proposed Hacienda Drive Interchange. The purpose of the
additional work will be

1. Respond to Caltrans comments on the preliminary Mate-
rials Report regarding the applicability of wick drains
for acceleration of settlement at the site.

2. Refine the compressibility and consolidation char-
ac=eristics of the subsurface soils at the site. This
information will then allow refinement of the settle-
ment magnitude and the time rate of settlement estimate
presented in the preliminary Materials Report.

The CONSULTANT shall revise the preliminary Materials Report
to include the supplemental data and present conclusions and
recommendations. The final report will also address the
initial comments made by Caltrans on the preliminary report.

2
