partnership with the region; that the regional and local circulation network must include <br />State Route 84, I-580, I-680, as well as local street networks such as Dublin Boulevard, <br />Stoneridge Drive, Jack London and Portola; that the Council wants to maintain maximum <br />flexibility if the right conditions exist; that the Council wants to come together with the <br />region to develop a joint policy framework and funding plan that works for everyone; and <br />that a strategic initiative or roadmap is needed that provides finality for the future." <br />Motion: It was m/s by Cook-Kallio/Sullivan that the Council cannot commit to a timeline for <br />construction of Stoneridge Drive at this time, does recognize that the arterial has broad <br />local and regional benefits for the region and for residents such as public safety, mobility, <br />access to various amenities, that the construction cannot occur in the short term or long <br />term without the right conditions existing in the valley; that it is imperative for the valley to <br />work with the City to develop a balanced, strategic approach for regional and local traffic in <br />the valley that minimizes cut-through traffic in Pleasanton; that this can be done through a <br />continued partnership with the region; that the regional and local circulation network must <br />include State Route 84, I-580, 1-680, as well as local street networks such as Dublin <br />Boulevard, Stoneridge Drive, Jack London and Portola; that the Council wants to maintain <br />maximum flexibility if the right conditions exist; that the Council wants to come together <br />with the region to develop a joint policy framework and funding plan that works for <br />everyone; and that a strategic initiative or roadmap is needed that provides finality for the <br />future. <br />Ayes: Cook-Kallio, McGovern, Sullivan, Thorne, Mayor Hosterman <br />Noes: None <br />Absent: None <br />Motion: It was m/s by Thorne/Cook-Kallio to give staff direction to include Stoneridge <br />Drive in the General Plan. <br />Ayes: Cook-Kallio, McGovern, Sullivan, Thorne, Mayor Hosterman <br />Noes: None <br />Absent: None <br />Councilmember Sullivan commented that he still feels strongly that this should go to a vote <br />of the people, thinks it is the right thing to do, but he also thinks that if we are looking at <br />alternatives or eventual outcomes, this gives us what we need to work with as a <br />community to provide what is best, to protect people with concerns on both sides of the <br />issue, and hopefully enough common ground will be in place for people to work together. <br />He felt it was a long way from where he was a year ago, but will be available to discuss <br />the matter with anyone who voted for him. <br />Mayor Hosterman echoed Councilmember Sullivan's comments, felt this step is the <br />Council's ticket to sitting down with regional partners and achieving a vision and a goal for <br />the valley and she looks forward to getting back to the table. She felt as a community, we <br />have made ourselves clear and she felt the region is going to respect the needs of the <br />people of Pleasanton. <br />Councilmember McGovern said the Council has addressed Stoneridge Drive in the motion <br />made, but we have not addressed the current traffic concerns and safety concerns of the <br />City Council Minutes 25 May 1, 2007 <br />
