Chairperson Ellgas closed the meeting for public comment at 7:21 p.m. Ms. Hagopian discussed the Pioneer status for the cemetery, as adopted by the City Council. She discussed problems with irrigation pipes, and the improvements that have already been made. Commissioner Pentin questioned upkeep of the area by the flagpole, and commended Ms. Hagopian on the great improvements that have already been made. Commissioner Kummer indicated that he had obtained information regarding setting up an endowment for people who wished to make donations for renovations/improvements to the cemetery. He also indicated that he preferred the name "Pleasanton Pioneer Gardens Cemetery." Chairperson Ellgas felt inclusion of the word "gardens" indicated flowers, and this didn't fit with the issue of a "pioneer" facility. Commissioner Kummer suggested the possibility of local organizations planting flowers, and Mr. Wolfe indicated that organizations could help with the fixing and repair of headstones. Ms. Hagopian provided additional information regarding developing a uniform standard of turf for the cemetery, which would help in making it more presentable. Mr. Beratlis informed Commissioner Kinzer that the Committee was in favor of reinstalling the archway at the cemetery entrance. A motion was made by Commissioner Kummer, seconded by Chairperson Ellgas, to accept the status report on the Pleasanton Memorial Gardens Cemetery, and recommend City Council approval of the proposed name change to "Pleasanton Pioneer Garden Cemetery" and reinstallation of the original driveway arch. Discussion regarding the motion was held, and Commissioners Pentin and Kinzer indicated they were not in favor of including the word "Garden" in the cemetery name. After some discussion, the motion was modified to recommend the name be changed to "Pleasanton Pioneer Cemetery." ROLL CALL VOTE: AYES: Commissioners Kinzer, Kummer, Pentin, and Chairperson Ellgas.
