I have lived in, and loved, Old
Town for decades, (Amador 55') yet the Oxsen and Morrison families make me look like
a new comer. Emil (Amador 54') and his older brothers and sisters were born and raised
on a Pleasanton ranch. There are streets in Pleasanton named in honor of the Oxsen
family. Kathleen Morrison (the flag lady) who lives in the cute little well kept 1915
bungalow on the corner was born and raised in this house by her grandparents, and like
her grandparents will most likely die here.
Emil, his wife Margie and Kathy's vision for their later years became clearer when the
Oxsen's discovered a drawing of a little bungalow in a 1927 Sears and Roebuck catalog
"Houses by Mail" and Kathy, a friend, offered them the opportunity to live in Old Town,
the only town either has ever really known. The Oxsen's and Morrison took that drawing,
and that opportunity, and turned it in to something real. Something that they, and the Old
Town community itself, should be proud of. It seems to me that these things define the
very meaning of "Building a Community of Character", in both the moral and visual
sense.
I keep asking myself, where are the misleading intentions here? Where is the bad
precedent? Where's the greed? And where are the negatives to the community? Emil and
Margie Oxsen and Kathy Morrison have proven by their actions and the results that they
simply want to live out the years in Old Town in a little house that each can call their
own. I support that desire.
~nce}~ely,
P.s: one might note that both houses combined still only total about 2300 sq. ft., a 21%
F.A.R. on the 10,669 sq. ft. lot. A far cry from the 45/50 percent F.A.R. the city has
been approving lately.
