THE CITY OF 6D <br /> <br /> , <br /> <br />pL£AS, NTON, <br /> Staff Report <br /> <br /> October 26, 1999 <br /> Police Department <br /> <br />SUBJECT APPROVAL OF RECOMMENDATIONS FOR USE OF CITIZEN'S <br /> OPTION FOR PUBLIC SAFETY PROGRAM (COPS) <br /> APPROPRIATION <br /> <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION: <br /> The City Council hold a public hearing and adopts a resolution to approve <br /> the proposal for use of the COPS appropriation fund: <br /> 1 ) Obtain additional Mobile Data Computers for patrol vehicles. <br /> 2) Completion of the installation of the Automated Emergency Vehicle <br /> Location (AVL) equipment. <br /> 3) Mapping Software to work in conjunction with Mobile Data Computers. <br /> 4) Field rifles/training for operations division. <br /> 5) Obtain various equipment and sofi:ware improvements in field <br /> deployment, scheduling, and emergency notification methods. <br /> 6) TRAK system image hardware and sothrare for capturing and <br /> distributing quality images of missing persons and criminals. <br /> <br /> In accordance with Chapter 6.7 (commencing with Section 30061 ), Division <br /> 3 Title 3 of the Govemment Code, the council must hold the heating and <br /> pass a resolution within 60 days. <br /> <br />SUMMARY: State Assembly Bill 3229 of July 12, 1996 established the Citizen's Option <br /> for Public Safety (COPS) Program. The Govemor has signed a bill <br /> renewing the funding for 1999/2000. The City will receive a proportionate <br /> share of $100,000,000 appropriated for public safety based of the City's <br /> population.
