(a) The department head shall grant such leave and determine the amount <br /> thereof. <br /> (b) This provision does not apply if the family sickness or disability, or the <br /> employee's bereavement, occurs while the employee is on vacation. <br /> 3. A management and confidential employee eligible for temporary disability <br /> payments may use accumulated sick leave in order to maintain his/her regular <br /> income, provided, however, that the employee shall be allowed a credit against <br /> sick leave to the extent that temporary disability payments are retained by the <br /> City. <br /> 4. In order to receive compensation while absent on sick leave, the employee shall <br /> notify his/her supervisor prior to the time set for beginning his/her daily duties <br /> or as otherwise may be specified by the department head. <br /> B. Absences For a Regular Work Day or Longer <br /> When an absence is for an employee's regular work day or longer, the employee may be <br /> required to file a physician's certificate or a perrenal a f davit with the Personnel <br /> Director stating the cause of the absence. <br /> C. Absences of Less Than a Regular Work Day <br /> Except for confidential employees, absences due to illness or disability of less than the <br /> employee's regular work day shall not be deducted from the employee's accrued sick <br /> leave balance. <br /> 7.5(3) Sick Leave Conversion <br /> In lieu of the PERS "Credit for Unused Sick Leave Option," employees may, during their final <br /> year of service prior to retirement from the City, convert their unused sick leave to additional <br /> years of service in the computation of their Section 6.2 Retiree Medical Benefit.
