14
THE CITY OF
u~~ ~
- -•• #"~° ° =~=" "" CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
~L£~S~4NTON
May 15, 2007
Planning and Community Development
TITLE: ADOPT A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING SUBMITTAL OF AN
APPLICATION FOR CONSIDERATION OF A PROJECT UNDER THE
METROPOLITAN TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION'S REGIONAL
TRANSPORTATION PLAN VISIONING PROJECT
SUMMARY
In preparing its 2009 Regional Transportation Plan, the Metropolitan Transportation
Commission (MTC) is incorporating a "vision" of the region's future, and is defining
policies, investments and financing that will support that vision. As part of that effort,
the Alameda County Technical Advisory Committee of the Congestion Management
Agency is requesting the submittal of projects that would meet MTC's performance-
based targets (reducing delay, reducing vehicle miles traveled, and reducing
emissions). Staff understands that improvements contemplated on and adjacent to the
Dublin/Pleasanton BART station would be consistent with these targets. Therefore,
staff is requesting the City Council's approval of a resolution authorizing the City
Manager to prepare and submit an application for consideration of such a project.
Submittal of this application does not constitute City approval of these projects, nor
does it commit the City to any particular land use alternative; any future improvements
would be subject to the City's review and would need to be consistent with the City's
General Plan. In order to maintain flexibility and to retain the opportunity to complete for
future funding, staff is recommending that the City Council authorize staff to submit this
application for project designation.
RECOMMENDATION
Adopt attached resolution (Attachment 1) authorizing the City Manager to prepare and
submit an application for consideration of a project under MTC's Regional
Transportation Plan Vision Project.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
A minor commitment of staff time (estimated at less than 20 hours) is required to
complete the application and for follow-up. Inclusion of the project in the Regional
Transportation Plan would provide future opportunities for State and Federal funding of
improvements on and around the Dublin/Pleasanton BART station.
