He also felt that wood
siding tends to lose its good appear-
ance in about a year. He felt that
this development should stay with
shake roofs to maintain the high
quality. Chairman Garrigan agreed
with Commissioner Pons remarks and wa
never under the impression that there
would be composition roofs. Commis-
sioner Pons pointed out that this
townhouse development was of the high
est quality in Pleasanton. Commis-
sioner Pereira stated that he envis-
ions a barracks-like effect with the
stucco all one color throughout. Mr.
Aiello felt that the overall design
would not result in this type of
effect aesthetically. Mr. Schumaker
stated that the Recreation building
is now up with shingle roofing. This
is definitely not low cost housing.
In response to a question from Commis
signer Wood, Mr. Schumaker stated tha
the price of these townhouses would
run around $30,000. At this point,
Mr. Stathem again remarked that the
homes in Stoneson have gone from a
$33,000 minimum to a $27,000 minimum.
Chairman Garrigan replied that the
City is as interested in maintaining
high quality as the property owner
and the Commission has taken that
stand.
Commissioner Hirst remarked that it
was his understanding that this would
not be a lower cost of housing and it
would be at least equal if not higher
than the previous units. He remarked
that this is the third time in three
-7-
