PIGC@; Pleasanton Justice Court Mrs. Milda Leiter of M. K. Blake & Associates, owners of the small shops in the Alpha Beta Center, was present to speak for the applicant. Mrs. Leiter told the Commission that she had spent about two hours driving in town checking advertising signs, and noted that in all areas of town advertising signs were prevalent. Commissioner Pereira brought up the point that this center had a specific signing program assigned to it and determined from Mrs. Leiter that she purchased the small stores in the enter. Commissioner Wood asked Mrs. Leiter i there were any vacancies in the center The reply was that the proposed site for the Citizens Savings & Loan building is the only one which is presently under a temporary lease which is about to expire. Mr. Dale Peterson, owner and operator of the Carpet Square in the same shop ping center spoke of the unfairness o. the signing policy. He spoke of the letter he received from the Planning Division regarding the type of signing she would be allowed and the policy ~lof 7 days only for each advertising '.special. Mr. Peterson felt that this approach is discriminatory to the shod 'owners who did not have a changing assortment of merchandise with which to advertise his business. Commissioner Pereira addressed the audience and attempted to explain to them the policy and direction behind the Commission's signing program; and that they had tried to arrive at a point of equity for all the merchants in town. He concluded his remarks by requesting the cooperation of the merchants. -2-
