CITY of PLEASANTOry
Planning Commissip~
SPECIAL
MINt~T~~ ~~F ~ MEETING.
D0~8 j February 20, 1974
Time ~ s : 05 P .M.
~~apo~ Veterans Memorial Building
established noise levels. So far,
BART has not convinced him that they
have solved this problem. If the
'southern route is chosen and the BAR
board accepts it, and money is pur-
chased to obtain required rights-of-
way, he feels no confidence that ad-
ditional bond issues may not become
mandatory to complete the system.
Chairman Pereira then stated that all
the Commissioners have studied this
issue closely over a period of time,
and after taking notes of comments
made, it is only fair to state that
planning is at best a very inexact
science, but that this is something
.which must be done. There are ad-
vantages to both routes. He noted
.that the northern route would be less
'expensive and at this point in time,
it could be done at grade. However,
it may be eight to ten years before
;this becomes reality. Perhaps by
jthen, the City's sewer problems will
':have been resolved and it cannot
'be anticipated what type of growth
might lie in the path of BART within
;their northern route. The Commission
must look at more than the financial
'aspect and consider other testimony
;which might influence the decision.
jThere being no further comments, the
following resolution was offered by
Commissioner Carrigan, seconded by
j'' Commissioner Wood and adopted.
That the Planning Commission recom-
mends to the City Council the selec-
tion of the southern route with the
stipulation that all development of
the line be undergroun d through the
current Pleasanton downtown core area
-15-
\\~\\~
~»~~»~
