MATTERS FOR COMMISSION'S REVIE~J
Review of City of Oakland's Game Room Ordinance
Mr. Harris presented the staff report which highlighted segments of
the City of Oakland's Game Room Ordinance for the Commission's review
and comments to City Council.
After Planning Commission discussion, Commissioner Jamieson indicated
concerns with 1000 and 300 foot distances as not being sufficient
(they should be greater); and 7:00 a.m. is too early. He suggested
the hours be 9:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m.
Commissioner Lindsey asked how the ordinance is working in Oakland.
Mr. Harris indicated he only knows what he has read in the newspapers
that the merchants have objected to the hours of use by age and that
it would be very hard to control.
Commissioner Doherty indicated that some areas have had bad experiences,
but that electronic games are enjoyed by the young and old alike. He
indicated that he was concerned with Oakland's exemption, i.e. food
centers such as the Straw Hat. He said Pleasanton should be ready for
this as this is a big profit maker and that we better be ready to
have something to govern it when it comes to town.
Commissioner Jamieson said an ordinance should probably be initiated by
Pleasanton. Commissioner Doherty said this is a perogative of the
City Council and not the Planning Commission.
Mr. Harris said the Pleasanton City Council merely wanted the Planning
Commission's comments with regard to the ordinance of the City of
Oakland as a matter of courtesy to Mr. Excell.
Tentative Map Tract 4827
Application o Chang Su-O Lin for an extension of the approved tentative
map for Tract 4827 (Linvale).
Mr. Harris presented the staff report stating that the extension date
should read from March 11, 1982 and not as shown on that report.
Ted Fairfield, representing the applicant, stated they agree with the
staff report as amended by Mr. Harris. He said this extension request
is really just a safeguard inasmuch as they may have the final map
filed by March 11 but just wanted to ensure no expiration would take
place if they didn't make the date.
A motion was made by Commissioner Jamieson, seconded by Commissioner
Lindsey that Tentative Map Tract 4827 be extended per the conditions
of the staff report dated 1/2/82 amending the extension date to
read March 11, 1982.
-11-
..... _... __.. .. _._ _... . , .._ _.........r._......_., .. ......... _. ._.._ .... .... _..w__,_.. _...._...,_. ... .. ,.,_.._ _._.......... ... _...... .__,.._ . ..
