Commissioner Lindsey then made a motion, seconded by Commissioner
Wilson to initiate an application to rezone the 200 block of Main
Street from "O" (Office) District to the C-C (Central Commercial)
District.
ROLL CALL VOTE
Ayes: Commissioners Doherty, Jamieson, Lindsey, Wilson and
Chairperson Getty
Noes: None
Absent: None
Abstain: None
Resolution No. 2163 was then entered and adopted initiating a
rezoning application as motioned.
Chairperson Getty stated that at recent downtown meetings held for
the state of California as well as at previous meetings consisting
of other cities, it has come to her attention that most cities
have a Design Review Board made up of people other than Planning
Commissioners. She said a typical Design Review Board would have
one architect, one landscape architect, a member of a homeowners'
association, one business person and perhaps two planning com-
missioners and perhaps this structure should be considered by
Pleasanton so that the Design Review Board would have the expertise
required to look at the aesthetics of various proposals presented.
She stated this would also reduce the workload of the Planning
Commission. She said this Board could even meet during the day.
She asked her fellow Commissioners to think about this.
Mr. Harris stated that the Design Review Board structure is set
out in ordinance so the City Council would have to change the
ordinance with this regard if it is the Planning Commission's
desire to do so.
Commissioner Jamieson said that based on experience, and while not
objecting to redesignating the Board, the Pleasanton Design Review
Board has done a pretty good job when you compare Pleasanton to
surrounding cities. He further stated to his knowledge, there
are only three architects in town and it seemed to him that in
such a small place, the City's architects would perhaps run into
a conflict of interest. He said he would look to experience and
results generated from the actions of the Design Review Board for
Pleasanton.
Commissioner Jamieson further stated he believes one should look
at Pleasanton vs. Livermore or other surrounding areas for results.
-2-
_..,_
