Harris, Director of Planning; Harvey
Levine, Deputy City Attorney; Don Sooby, Director of Engineering Services;
Yvonne McFadden, Recording Secretary.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The minutes of the February 9, 1977 meeting were approved as submitted.
MEETING OPEN FOR ANY MEMBER OF THE AUDIENCE TO ADDRESS THE PLANNING
COMMISSION ____
A. Mr. Jim Stratton, D~anager of Vorelco, Inc., the lessees of the properties
at the former Reynold C. Johnson Volkswagen facility, addressed the Planning
Commission. He indicated that since the Volkswagen facility moved their
headquarters away from Pleasanton, he has found it extremely difficult to
rent the office facilities to a similar, large industrial business, which
would find need for such large administrative offices.
Mr. Stratton was aware of the ordinance requirement of 5,000 sg.ft. for
office uses in conjunction with an industrially oriented business, therefore,
he was requesting the Planning Commission to take another look at the ordi-
nance code with the possibility of amending it to allow office uses in
square footages of less than 5,000.
Mr. Stratton indicated that the average size of each office use would be
1,750 sq.ft. and up. There is parking for 256 automobiles, sanitary
facilities would be capable of handling 1,365 people. He does not anticipate
more than 50 tenants at a time in the building.
Secretary Harris stated that the Planning Commission would be the appro-
priate agency to file for consideration of an ordinance amendment to allow
utilization of the premises as separate, smaller office uses. However, it
would mean that allowing this code amendment would put the office spaces,
tied in with large industrial-park usages, in direct competition with
Office-zoned properties in existing commercial zones, particularly the
downtown area.
