He <br />stated he did not want to invest in offices per se, but that they need some <br />leeway in order to better utilize the property. <br />Commissioner Wood thanked Mr. Edgren for his contribution to the City over <br />the years. <br />Next, Mr. Binkley confirmed to the Commission that he had made an offer on <br />the building. He does not intend to tear the building down. Instead, he <br />plans extensive rehabilitation of it. He expressed an open mind to any <br />suggestions. <br />The Public Hearing was closed on the rezoning review. <br />Commissioner Shepherd clarified Commissioner Wood's concern regarding opening <br />up of that area to such a broad spectrum of commercial uses. <br />Chairman Butler asked Secretary Harris about the revised projected size of <br />the Civic Center complex (due to lower projected population), requiring <br />lesser amounts of professional offices around the center, and wished to have <br />his opinion that sufficient office zoned land would remain after the current <br />rezoning. Mr. Harris indicated he felt sufficient office area would remain. <br />Secretary Harris then related that at the Council meeting the night before, <br />the Council appropriated funds for further development of the Civic Center. <br />Chairman Butler spoke about the policy just recently adopted by the Planning <br />Commission, whereby public agencies would be encouraged to locate around <br />the Civic Center. He noted that several public agencies have already located <br />elsewhere.
