MINUTES <br />PLANNING COMMISSION <br />Pleasanton Council Chambers <br />30 West Angela Street <br />September 14, 1977 <br />8:00 P.M. <br />CALL TO ORDER <br />The regular meeting of the Planning Commission was called to order at <br />8:05 P.M. by Chairman Butler. <br />The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag was recited. <br />ROLL CALL <br />Commissioners Present: Doherty, Jamieson, Shepherd (arrived at <br />8:10 P.M.), Wood, Chairman Butler <br />Commissioners Absent: None <br />Staff Members Present: Robert Harris, Director of Planning; Ken <br />Scheidig, City Attorney; Harvey Levine, Deputy <br />City Attorney; Brian Swift, Planning Analyst; <br />Rich Glenn, Planning Analyst; Don Sooby, <br />Director of Engineering Services; Yvonne <br />McFadden, Recording Secretary. <br />Council Members <br />Present: Ken Mercer, Liaison to the Planning Commission <br />Growth Management <br />Committee Members Present: Penny Deleray, Ann Rathjen, Sharon Kosch. <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br />The minutes of the August 10, 1977, meeting were approved as submitted. <br />MEETING OPEN FOR ANY MEMBER OF THE AUDIENCE <br />TO ADDRESS THE PLANNING COMMISSION <br />Mr. Percival Scales, owner of Essenar Investments, requested that the <br />Planning Commission investigate the possibility of amending the Ordinance <br />Code to allow waterbed stores in the C-N District. He explained that the <br />Amador Center (zoned C-N) had allowed a waterbed store to take occupancy <br />in the center. Mr. Scales assumed that the shopping center across the <br />street carried the same kind of zoning as his center, and since there is <br />a similar business in that center, he did not see anything irregular about <br />the waterbed store located in his shopping center. He has since learned <br />that waterbed shops are not allowed in the C-N District and requested an <br />amendment to the Ordinance Code. <br />After some discussion, the Commissioners adopted Resolution 1557 initi- <br />ating an amendment to the ordinance code to allow either as a permitted <br />or conditional use waterbed stores in the C-N District. <br />
