Secretary Harris encouraged the Commissioners to consider attending
the seminar for Planning Commissioners, which is being offered by the
League of California Cities during the first week in February.
MATTERS INITIATED BY COMMISSION MEMBERS
A. Commissioner Wood requested that the Pleasanton Club sign at the entrance
to the City from Stanley Boulevard, which has been laying on the ground for
four weeks, be re-erected. Mr. Levine indicated he would contact Ben
Fernandez, about this.
B. Commissioner Wood asked why traffic signals were placed at the inter-
section of Main and St. John, instead of at Main and St. Mary. Mr. Sooby
explained that one major problem was inability of motorists to make left
turns at Ray. He delineated the reasons for location of other traffic
signals explaining that the City would continue to analyze their effective-
ness.
C. Commissioner Jamieson told Mr. Sooby that the islands along Santa Rita
Road were difficult to see at night. Mr. Sooby said he would talk to
the Street Superintendent about having some reflecting paint put on them.
D. Commissioner Jamieson then stated that East Angela Street is in dis-
repair. He asked that the City check the situation out.
E. Commissioner Doherty acknowledged quick action of the Southern Pacific
Railroad Company in removing the unsightly box cars at Santa Rita Road.
F. Commissioner Doherty said that attempting to exit the Amador Center
to go west on Valley Avenue is almost impossible. He also cited problems
negotiating turns at Santa Rita Road and Valley. Mr. Sooby stated that
the City Council had asked for some cost figures to hire a consultant
to review this traffic matter. He also stated that the situation would
be alleviated with the installation of the traffic lights at Santa Rita
and Valley.
G. Chairman Butler congratulated Commissioner Wood on his campaign to
run for City Council.
ADJOURNMENT
The regular meeting of the Planning Commission was adjourned at 1:30 A.M.
~---
Robert Harris, Secretary
-11-
