Comments in opposition were expressed by: <br />Ron Gardner, Cristobal Way (no street number given, expressed concern <br />regarding the lack of commercial property available in the City. Putting <br />a commercial use in a residential neighborhood would ruin the area. <br />Ray Valdez, 1882 Cortez Court spoke. He sent a certified letter to the <br />City expressing his concerns about the application because of children <br />traversing the streets around the residential tract, that the crosswalks <br />are heavily utilized. He worried about property values. <br />Mr. Valdez emphasized he is in favor of ambulance service being in the <br />City. Giles, 1881 Cortez spoke. She expressed the same concerns <br />as Mr. Valdez. She noted that all previous comments on acquisition of <br />commercial property for the use referred to purchase of the property. <br />She asked about leasing of commercial property for the use. <br />Next, Dennis Jones, 4178 Francisco Street spoke. He is a student at <br />Amador High School. He conjectured one reason for delay in response time <br />might be if the ambulance could not cross the railroad tracks when a train <br />is going by. He endorsed the location under consideration. He cited a <br />recent incident at the high school when it took between 10-15 minutes <br />for ambulance to arrive and the person who had been hurt suffered con- <br />siderable loss of blood. <br />Mr. Larry Freeman, Assistant Administrator of Valley Memorial Hospital <br />supported re-establishment of the ambulance service in Pleasanton. He <br />said that the ambulance service should be considered as an extension of <br />the hospital's services. He likened the use to other emergency services <br />such as fire and police. <br />Mr. Freeman was followed by Dr. Gunderson, head of emergency services at <br />the hospital. He supported establishment of an ambulance service in <br />Pleasanton. <br />Commissioner Jamieson asked Dr. Gunderson if he noticed any additional <br />deterioration in patient condition because of longer response time for <br />Pleasanton calls. Dr. Gunderson indicated he was not aware of any life <br />and death situation, but stressed unfavorable aspects related to increased <br />amounts of pain and discomfort. He stated that because the paramedic <br />program is not in effect in the Valley, and ambulance personnel are <br />only allowed to perform certain procedures, ambulance calls should work <br />at cutting down response time to the minimum.
