Chairman Butler concurred that this is a very difficult question to respond
to, and perhaps the advantage such an ordinance amendment might produce is
a greater variety of landscaping.
Commissioner Jamieson questioned the concept of residents in Pleasanton
preferring the open space feature in front yards. Secretary Harris indi-
cated he had no hard facts to go on, that this is only an assumption on
staff's part.
Commissioner Shepherd expressed concern regarding this proposal.
Next, Al Arrigoni, 5128 Blackbird Drive, whose front yard design initiated
this review, thanked the staff for taking the time to review his request.
He also expressed the opinion that it was not his intent to have such types
of front yard landscaping designs get out of control.
Resolution No. 1632 was entered and adopted initiating a change to Sections
2-5.37 and 2-5.38, as set forth in the April 10 staff report.
Roll Call Vote
Resolution: Shepherd
Seconded: Jamieson
Ayes: Jamieson, Shepherd, Butler
Noes: None
Absent: Doherty
Abstain: None
MATTERS INITIATED BY COMMISSION MEMBERS
A. Chairman Butler expressed thanks to Mr. Miller of the City Manager's
office of his prompt action in repairing the poor sound system in the
Council Chambers.
B. Chairman Butler expressed the hope that the City Council would take
steps to replace those Planning Commissioners who had left the Commission
or who may be leaving in the very near future.
Commissioner Shepherd, whose term expires in May, expressed appreciation for
the pleasant association he has enjoyed with his fellow Commissioners and
for the association he has had with City staff. He indicated he would be
present for the May meeting, but did not plan to re-apply.
ADJOURNMENT
The meeting of the Planning Commission was adjourned at 9:20 P.M.
Robert arris
Secretary
-10-
