Mike Coleman, AIA, for Van Bokkelen-Cole spoke stated he would like the
opportunity to work out any details concerning landscaping, parking lot,
etc. with Mr. Harris since some parking will be eliminated in changing
them to accommodate existing trees. He stated it is possible that now
with changes made, they might not have enough of a buffer to come up
with the number of parking spaces required by code. Mr. Harris stated
there must be sufficient parking or the application for a variance
would have to be made.
Mr. Harris stated that the Fire Department has asked the applicant to
submit plans for the Fire Department's files and records.
Mrs. Ferne Mallard, 3160 Weymouth Court, spoke to deteriorating fences
and trees which fell in January. She stated no one has done anything
about this and feels Van Bokkelen-Cole should. She stated deep con-
cern for the children in the area going to and from school and other
areas. She reviewed her recommendation made to the Planning Commission
on June 13, 1978 regarding concerns of Local Children.
William Kovac, 3224 Weymouth Court, spoke recommending a variance be
considered so that the property could be put on the property line to
prevent vandalism, etc., he said he wanted a masonry-type fence
put around the property and veneering for aesthetics.
Virginia Kovac, 3124 Weymouth Court, spoke asking if restaurants were
considered proper in that shopping center. Commissioner Doherty said
that restaurants are allowed in that zoning. She argued that there was
no public meetings with the homeowners held by Van Bokkelen-Cole.
She doesn't want a row of trees in the back of the building and would
like something else proposed. She said trees would take 10 years
to grow.
Mr. Kovac, then offered a rebuttal to the statement of Mr. Moore
that he had consulted with property owners.
Commissioner Wilson then spoke in favor of this proposal stating
that every residential area needs a shopping center of this type.
This reduces the need residents have to go to another shopping center
for service.
The Public Hearing was closed.
Resolution No. 1701 was then adopted approving the filing of the
Negative Declaration for UP-78-26.
Roll Call Vote
Motion: Commissioner Leppert
Seconded: Commissioner Getty
Ayes: Commissioners Geppert,
Noes: None
Absent: Chairman Jamieson
Abstain: None
Getty, Wilson and Acting Chairman Doherty
-5-
