Commissioner Geppert commended the Pleasanton Jaycees for their fine
work in getting $9,000 donated for the recent telethon.
Commissioner Getty thanked the City Council for arranging money for
her to attend a Downtown Conference to be held in Southern California.
She stated she will be representing the City Council, Planning Com-
mission and the Chamber of Commerce.
OLD BUSINESS - Public Hearings
GP-79-8, Harris Realty Company
Application or a genera. plan amendment to change the general plan
designation of properties located at 444, 459, 471, 486 and 496 St.
Mary Street from "High Density Residential" to "Commercial and Office.
A negative declaration of environmental impacts will also be con-
sidered. This matter was continued to October 10, 1979.
RZ-79-13, Thomas Jor ensen
App ication o Thomas Jorgensen
4225 Stanley Boulevard from the
District to the C-S (Commercial
zoning district consistent with
of environmental impacts was al.
to rezone a 0.7 acre lot located at
R-1-6500 (Single-Family Residential)
Service) District or to any other
the General Plan. A negative declaration
so considered.
Mr. Harris explained the staff report and their recommendation for
denial of this proposal. Commissioner Geppert referred to the General
Plan map concerning this area which is located between the railroad
tracks, Stanley Boulevard, Del Valle Parkway as being residential.
Mr. Harris explained. Mr. Geppert stated he felt this was not an
appropriate residential area and had no problems with the area being C-S.
The public hearing was opened.
Lee Amaral, attorney for the applicant, 62 W. Neal Street, Pleasanton,
addressed the Commission. He stated the Jorgensens have owned the
property for 30 years and at that time manufactured and sold fishing
tackle to retail stores and outlets. He stated they now wholesale
only and there is no manufacturing going on at this time. He stated
the Jorgensens are concerned with their business becoming larger and
by condition of a variance previously granted which limits the operation
to 1990. He stated he feels the rezoning is consistent with the
present use and referred to other businesses a few lots away from the
Jorgensen property.
Commissioner Getty asked if the Jorgensens owned the property and Mr.
Amaral stated they did. She spoke to the possibility of a rezoning,
Jorgensens selling the property and the possibility of a business,
not quite as low key as Jorgensens coming to that location. She
stated the citizens of that area would be opposed to this change
based upon their previous reactions. Commissioner Getty spoke to
eliminating the date on the condition of approval for the variance
previously issued (to be heard by the Board of Adjustment 9/13/79).
She stated she would prefer that this be done as opposed to a rezoning.
As no one addressed the Commission, the public hearing was closed.
-2-
