Mr. Connelly explained it was a lint collector. <br />Chairperson Wilson stated that he went through the laundry today and <br />that there is a yellow line between the 'clean area' and other areas. <br />Mr. Connelly stated that they need additional storage area to best serve <br />the business. Chairperson Wilson confirmed that they are not increasing <br />the size of their business or adding to their current personnel. Mr. <br />Connelly stated that the size of their staff varies with the business <br />but that they are not expanding and would not add personnel to their <br />staff . <br />Commissioner Lindsey asked about existing storage and the situation con- <br />cerning this. Mr. Connelly stated that by contract of their various <br />accounts they are required to segregate and try to eliminate storage of <br />'clean' clothes with that to be processed. <br />Commissioner Getty asked again about the landscaping and any discussions <br />with Southern Pacific to which Mr. Connelly responded landscaping <br />matters, right now, are the least of his worries. <br />Chairperson Wilson asked about the recent building permit issued to <br />Interstate. Mr. Connelly stated it was for termite repairs. <br />Reverend John Tompkins, who runs a family counselling center at 236 Ray <br />Street, stated he previously has worked with the railroad and has seen <br />what derailing and other rail accidents have done and spoke to direct <br />concerns about such an accident wherein heavy equipment goes off the <br />tracks and through the laundry. He said he had a problem with the fact <br />that the laundry is situated where it is in the first place and potentially <br />dangerous situation should there be a rail accident. <br />Commissioner Jamieson asked Reverend Tompkins if he has ever visited <br />the inside of the laundry and if not, how could he derive any conclusions. <br />Reverend Tompkins stated his concern was with the railroad and potential <br />accidents and the fact that a laundry is located on this site to begin <br />with and to let it expand is ridiculous. <br />Leonard Post, attorney for Marcia Taylor who lives across the street <br />from Interstate addressed the issue. He stated he spoke to Jack Brown <br />of the State and that they have never looked into the transportation of <br />the laundry. He further stated there hasn't been a soils study done <br />in about five years and that Mr. Brown has never seen the study pre- <br />viously done and further that they are too busy with Livermore Lab and <br />their plutonium leaks to be too concerned with the small matter at <br />Pleasanton and that unless his superior so instructed him he wouldn't <br />be taking issue with the Interstate Laundry right now. Mr. Post <br />referred to the staff report and the fact that this item is exempt <br />from the requirements of CEQA because of its size. He further <br />addressed an expansion of the facilities in 1972 wizich are not in the <br />City's files. He requested an EIR be prepared on this matter. Further <br />-3- <br /> <br />
