Commissioner Lindsey stated it is getting close to that now because
it is impossible to sell and upgrade due to the economic conditions.
He said that in order for a person to get a larger house they will
have to expand. He felt that the Ordinance Code should be looked at.
Mr. Harris stated that the majority of people can expand within the
limits of the code.
Commissioner Doherty stated that part of the problem is that people
are desiring to expand and do not find out the regulations ahead of
time. He stated they should look at alternatives based on the space
they have available.
Commissioner Lindsey indicated that the City should be ready to
respond to requests in view of the current cost of housing and the
need for expansion.
Commissioner Jamieson said that we might want to review the code since
the last review was in 1968.
Mr. Harris stated that there will be a review of the code and that
Brian Swift is now looking at a comprehensive review and that is
certainly something he can look at -- setbacks in residential districts.
Commissioner Jamieson stated he agrees with Commissioner Lindsey --
more people will be coming in for approval for expansion.
Mr. Harris stated input would be welcome and it should be directed to
City Attorney, Harvey Levine, or Brian Swift.
RZ-80-9 Robert E. Frank
Application of Robert E. Frank to rezone from the C-F (Commercial
Freeway) District to the C-C (Central Commercial) District the 2.54+
acre site located at the southeast corner of Foothill Road and
Stoneridge Drive. The Planning Commission may recommend approval
of the proposed change or may recommend any other zoning district
consistent with the General Plan. A negative declaration of environ-
mental impacts will also be considered.
Mr. Harris explained the staff report recommending a PUD with a list
of approved items for this property.
Commissioner Getty asked if all of the uses listed are in the regional
center. Mr. Harris stated that many of them are and for that reason
the developers of this property would probably not have, for example,
a jewelry store inasmuch as there are already several in the mall.
Commissioner Getty asked if perhaps, commercial properties in `\
Pleasanton are being diluted. She stated that there are commercial
neighborhood shopping centers all around town which are empty.
Mr. Harris stated that the property as currently zoned, C-F, allows
more obnoxious uses than proposed in the new zoning request. He
stated more commercial land is not being created. He stated this
property has been commercial for a long time and information avail-
able shows there will not be any convenience type uses in the area.
-2-
