PLANNING COMMISSION <br />Page 6 <br />Mr. Larry Frankle, 409 -13th Street, spoke as counsel for the <br />Tribune and the Chronicle. He indicated they would work <br />with the City to meets its requirements. <br />Sue Seelye,Circulation Zone Manager with the Chronicle/Examiner, <br />indicated that the majority of their distributors were independent <br />dealers and that each dealer paid for the racks. He job is <br />to coordinate the actions of the dealers and work with them to <br />solve any problems that may arise. She requested that before <br />demanding a change in the type of racks that the Commission <br />consider the economic impact on the independent dealers. She <br />gave the following persons as dealers in this area: <br />Bruce Morgan, Home Phone: 828-3492 (Chronicle) <br />Mark Phillips, Home Phone: 443-0859 (Examiner) <br />Mr. Mike Trainer, representing the East Bay Today, also indicated <br />he would cooperate with the City staff and other newspapers to <br />resolve the current problems. <br />The public hearing was closed. <br />Commissioner Getty suggested a time limit of 30 days be set <br />for the newspaper representatives to meet with Staff and that <br />Mr. Hallstrom would be the coordinator. <br />Commissioner Arrigoni stressed that the subjects to be addressed <br />would be the type of rack as well as the location. <br />Reorganization of Planning Commission <br />This matter was postponed to the next meeting due to the absence <br />of two Commissioners. <br />Bernal Avenue Realignment <br />Mr. Warnick indicated staff had been considering the plans <br />drafted in 1965 for the realignment of Bernal Avenue, which <br />included construction of a bridge over the railroad tracks. <br />Due to the cost of the proposed bridge and further consideration <br />of the plan, including access to homes on Bernal Avenue, it was <br />determined by staff that a new alignment further south for <br />Bernal was more beneficial and that the brids~e over the tracks <br />would be eliminated. A detailed map was presented to the Commission <br />and discussed.
