Approximately 10.5 acres just south of the eastern terminus of Crellin Road.
The Planning Commission may recommend any action on this application deemed
in the public interest. A negative declaration of environmental impacts will also
be considered.
Mr. Harris presented the staff report. He stated the staff did have some concern
with changing 50 acres to residential . Additionally they have some reservation about
changing all of the school sites in view of the possibility that they may be needed, at
least in part, in the future.
The public hearing was opened
Mr .Bob Hagler, Pleasanton Joint Union School District, 123 Main Street, stated that
they have studied the situation very carefully and followed state guidelines. He stated
their projections in the last 10 years have not been off by more than 10 students for
the entire district. He stated that at the current time the District has an $80,000
surplus. He said a fire or anything else would hurt the District very much. He encouraged
the Commission to recommend Medium Density for all of their sites.
Chairman Jamieson asked Mr. Hagler what the property taxes are for the properties.
Mr. Hagler stated they are $2100. Chairman Jamieson then asked if the School District
had insurance for the sites. Mr. Hagler said they did but there is $100,000 deductible.
Commissioner Wilson asked Mr. Hagler if the money realized from the sale of their
surplus school sites would be used to improve existing schools. Mr. Hagler stated
that they money would be put in the general fund. He explained that they have laid
off the grounds men at all school sites and would certainly like to put the money
to some use. He stated that roofs are leaking and in the case of Walnut Grove the
cost of roof repair is about $8,000.
Commissioner Wilson asked if the schools had alarm systems for fire and burglary.
Mr. Hagler indicated they have studied this but they cost too much money. Commissioner
Wilson then asked what the land use designation of the Lund property is. Mr. Harris
responded that it is Low Density and so is the Auf der Maur and Bonde properties.
Frank Auf der Maur, 599 Pico Avenue, agreed with the staff report. He urged that
the 7.2 acre site located near the eastern terminus of Mission Drive just north of
the City park facility be Low Density Residential. He indicated he lives next door
to the site. He further stated that the Lund property is fairly level.
Dave Griffith, 5622 Paseo Navarro, addressed the Del Prado property. He stated
he found out about the hearing from a friend. He asked that the hearing be delayed
so that the people who border this property will know what is happening. Commissioner
Lindsey said he found it parculiar that when something goes on next to him he always
receives the notices sent out. Chairman Jamieson said that the neighbors should
feel free to examine the listing in the file.
Mr. Griffith said he house backs up to Hansen Park. Commissioner Doherty asked
Mr. Griffith what his concern is. Mr. Griffith said he would like to see the property
Low Density Residential.
