Residential Densities <br />Mr. Lee said we should determine if we are going to maintain open <br />space or use the lands for residential development and at what <br />density. If the City is concerned with affordable housing, there <br />is little high density residential land left. Something should <br />be done to provide a greater number and lower costs. We should <br />make the best use of the little space we have for high density <br />housing. <br />Commissioner Michelotti made the suggestion that we advise <br />citizens of a density more specifically indicated than an average <br />range, for example, 2 - 8 rather than 5. <br />Mayor Mercer asked if there was any problem adding a rural <br />residential category and an additional high density category to <br />the General Plan. There were no objections. <br />Councilmember Wood noted that 15% of the building was made up of <br />apartments which seemed high. Mr. Lee pointed out that there was <br />a pent up demand for a long period of time and that we are <br />rapidly using land where we could build apartments or townhouses. <br />Employment Centers <br />Mr. Lee asked what the feelings were about our present employment <br />centers. How might we invite more patronage to our downtown <br />businesses? Shall we attempt to attract the tourist trade? <br />Councilman Butler stated that there is not enough room to expand <br />downtown. It is geographically limited. He also stated that <br />landscaping and street improvements would help. Councilmember <br />Mohr said we will soon be seeing some positive changes. <br />Those present agreed that Option 2 was the best approach. <br />Commercial Centers <br />Mr. Lee noted the regional commercial was almost exclusively at <br />Stoneridge Mall. What is an adequate amount of land to use as <br />commercial? Is there room in Pleasanton for another regional <br />commercial facility? <br />The general consensus was no. <br />Commissioner Micholetti felt that a neighborhood commercial <br />facility might be desirable at the periphery of Stoneridge. <br />Mr. Lee stated that it would be wise to choose these areas now <br />while we have the best locations. <br />Those present supported Options 1, 2, 3 and 4. <br />
