Commissioner Lindsey asked for clarification of the recent
modification to Case PUD-84-11 on Ray Street. Mr. Harris
explained the details of the modification as requested.
Commissioner Wellman asked for a status report concerning her
previous request concerning the Post Office with regard to
circulation and potential Post Office locations in the newly
developed areas of town. Mr. Okamura spoke to the circulation
issue stating that the Postmaster has indicated to him that since
there appears to be a safety problem, he could support the City's
request and attempt to procure funds to make changes as
requested. City staff must ascertain what the cost of the
improvements would be. As soon as this is furnished to the
Postmaster, he will make his request.
Regarding Commissioner Wellman's request to have staff write a
letter to the Postmaster concerning service to newly developed
areas, Mr. Harris stated that he was going to wait until he and
Mr. Okamura meet with the Postmaster and then follow up with a
letter. Commissioner Wellman suggested that a letter be written
over the Planning Commission Chairman's signature requesting this
matter be looked into. All of the Commissioners supported this
request.
Commissioner Innes addressed the left turn lane in front of the
Foothill Knolls development. Mr. Okamura indicated that he
believes the City's plan now satisfies the County Road
Department. The plan is supposed to go to the County this week
and if the striping plan is approved, work should commence
shortly. Commissioner Innes stated he stopped and viewed the
area for one hour. He counted 116 cars going north on Foothill
Road, 77 of them crossed into the left-turn lane. The natural
flow of traffic coming south causes cars to head for oncoming
traffic. This is a real concern especially with all of the kids
who use this road. Mr. Okamura stated that perhaps it should be
suggested that center striping be done going north, a row of
buttons be put in on the east side to inform drivers that they
are crossing a line. Commissioner Innes asked if the City could
make a recommendation on this to the County and that the traffic
committee look at this on site. Commissioner Lindsey supported
the comments of Commissioner Innes.
Commissioner Innes congratulated Mr. Harris on his new position
in the City of Fremont. Chairman Wilson asked that Mr. Harris
tell Shirley McDougall when he would be available for the
Planning Commission to.take out to dinner. Mr. Harris indicated
that his plans far next week have not yet been made firm and that
the following week he would be out of town on vacation. He would
inform Shirley of his availability for the invitation of the
Commission. Commissioner Innes stated that Mr. Harris
resignation would be a big loss to the City. Mr. Harris stated
that he has enjoyed working with the Commission over the years
and is sorry he won't be working with the newest members as well.
Chairman Wilson stated that there will only be one Planning
Commission meeting during the months of July, August and
- 2 -
