Minutes Planning Commissio 5/8/85 appointed Vice Chairman for the period May 8, 1985 through the first meeting in May 1986. Commissioner Wellman seconded this motion. Commissioner Brian Hoyt made a motion to close the nominations. This vote carried 5-0. He then announced that the Design Review Board would consist of Brian Hoyt, Kaye Wellman with Larry Lindsey Chairman and that the Board of Adjustment would consist of Sharrell Michelotti, DeWitt C. Wilson and John Innes as Chairman. These two subcommittees will reverse membership the first meeting in November. Commissioner Wellman addressed obvious needs of the post office. She suggested that the Engineering Staff try again to discuss parking and access with the Post Office Department. She indicated that they have appointed a new postmaster within the last several months and perhaps he would be agreeable to discussion of needed changes. She suggested that staff send a letter to the U. S. Postal Service, J. F. Kantu, questioning new facilities for the growth area of Pleasanton or that the Post Office initiate a feasibility study for the new growth area. Chairman Wilson indicated he goes to the Post Office Each morning travelling east and there is a problem. Traffic is backed up on Black Avenue to Santa Rita Road. He suggested that perhaps the employees' parking area could be open for public use at this time of the day as it appears to be vacant. Commissioner Wellman suggested the Post Office site might be appropriate for the library and another site found for the Post Office. Commissioner Innes asked that staff check the noise factors coming from the breezeway of the Council Chambers. When there are many people present, the the amplifies noise. He suggested double glazing, pneumatic cylinders, etc. be investigated. OLD BUSINESS - Public Heari Request to Initiate an amendment to the Zoning Code to conditionally allow service stations/convenience stores in the CN (Neighborhood Commercial) District. Mr. Harris stated that while staff recommended denial of the proposed change, it doesn't feel real strongly about it one way or the other. The staff doesn't see any particular need to increase the number of locations selling alcoholic beverages. Commissioner Wellman asked about the Shell Service Station on Hopyard Road which sells alcohol. Mr. Harris stated that there is no prohibition against the sale of alcohol at this location and the zoning is Planned Unit Development. Ben Magshoudi, 11389 Crystal Lake Drive, indicated he has a minimart/gas station in Dublin and has never had any complaints. He stated he now owns the two stations in Pleasanton an they need the extra income from the sale of alcoholic beverages to augment the sale of gasoline. The Shell Station on West Las Positas is next to a 7-11 Store and across the street from a grocery store. He does not believe that the sale of alcoholic beverages at his - 2 - r .
