Minutes <br />Planning Commissio <br />5/8/85 <br />appointed Vice Chairman for the period May 8, 1985 through the <br />first meeting in May 1986. Commissioner Wellman seconded this <br />motion. Commissioner Brian Hoyt made a motion to close the <br />nominations. This vote carried 5-0. <br />He then announced that the Design Review Board would consist of <br />Brian Hoyt, Kaye Wellman with Larry Lindsey Chairman and that the <br />Board of Adjustment would consist of Sharrell Michelotti, DeWitt <br />C. Wilson and John Innes as Chairman. These two subcommittees <br />will reverse membership the first meeting in November. <br />Commissioner Wellman addressed obvious needs of the post office. <br />She suggested that the Engineering Staff try again to discuss <br />parking and access with the Post Office Department. She <br />indicated that they have appointed a new postmaster within the <br />last several months and perhaps he would be agreeable to <br />discussion of needed changes. She suggested that staff send a <br />letter to the U. S. Postal Service, J. F. Kantu, questioning new <br />facilities for the growth area of Pleasanton or that the Post <br />Office initiate a feasibility study for the new growth area. <br />Chairman Wilson indicated he goes to the Post Office Each morning <br />travelling east and there is a problem. Traffic is backed up on <br />Black Avenue to Santa Rita Road. He suggested that perhaps the <br />employees' parking area could be open for public use at this time <br />of the day as it appears to be vacant. Commissioner Wellman <br />suggested the Post Office site might be appropriate for the <br />library and another site found for the Post Office. <br />Commissioner Innes asked that staff check the noise factors <br />coming from the breezeway of the Council Chambers. When there <br />are many people present, the the amplifies noise. He suggested <br />double glazing, pneumatic cylinders, etc. be investigated. <br />OLD BUSINESS - Public Heari <br />Request to Initiate an amendment to the Zoning Code to <br />conditionally allow service stations/convenience stores in the CN <br />(Neighborhood Commercial) District. <br />Mr. Harris stated that while staff recommended denial of the <br />proposed change, it doesn't feel real strongly about it one way <br />or the other. The staff doesn't see any particular need to <br />increase the number of locations selling alcoholic beverages. <br />Commissioner Wellman asked about the Shell Service Station on <br />Hopyard Road which sells alcohol. Mr. Harris stated that there <br />is no prohibition against the sale of alcohol at this location <br />and the zoning is Planned Unit Development. <br />Ben Magshoudi, 11389 Crystal Lake Drive, indicated he has a <br />minimart/gas station in Dublin and has never had any complaints. <br />He stated he now owns the two stations in Pleasanton an they need <br />the extra income from the sale of alcoholic beverages to augment <br />the sale of gasoline. The Shell Station on West Las Positas is <br />next to a 7-11 Store and across the street from a grocery store. <br />He does not believe that the sale of alcoholic beverages at his <br />- 2 - <br />r . <br />
