Jerry Wilfly, 6350 Carriage Drive, felt the applicant should <br />lease tenant space. He did not feel the development of this <br />property in such a manner would benefit anyone but the applicant. <br />Regarding the Southern Pacific right-of-way, they have indicated <br />it was to be abandoned for the past 20 years. 283 cars in a <br />parking lot is a lot of cars. There is a serious problem now <br />with cars coming off of Sunol Boulevard to Happy Valley Road. <br />The Initial Study indicates there are no significant effects on <br />the environment, however, he takes issue with this since the <br />building is completely incompatible with the surrounding area. <br />He felt a 4-story building of this type belongs in north <br />Pleasanton. <br />Dave Dogan, 307 Brion/Carriage Drive, endorsed the comments of <br />the two previous speakers. He expressed concern with parking and <br />traffic. <br />Karen Larish, 6621 Amber Lane, spoke in opposition to a <br />four-story structure, with 283 car parking stalls, at this <br />location. Further she did not believe such a structure with <br />reflective glass was appropriate and would not blend with the <br />surroundings. <br />The public hearing was then continued to January 22, 1986. <br />Commissioner Lindsey urged the speakers to meet with the <br />applicant. <br />NEW BUSINESS - Public Hearings <br />UP-85-52, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church <br />Application of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church for a conditional <br />use permit to allow church activities in an approximately 850 sq. <br />ft. office space located at 1257 Quarry Lane (Valley Business <br />Park). Zoning for the property is PUD (Planned Unit <br />Development)-Industrial District. <br />Mr. Swift presented the staff report which recommended approval <br />of this use. <br />Commissioner Innes questioned the restriction limiting the <br />congregation to 50 people. Mr. Swift indicated that a maximum of <br />50 people would be allowed by Code to occupy the area. <br />The public hearing was opened. <br />Pastor Daniel Schmelyer, 2199 Camino Brazos, stated that at the <br />end of two years, they have an option to lease more of the <br />facilities. Currently they have no charter membership for their <br />congregation. <br />The public hearing was closed. <br />A motion was made by Commissioner Wellman, seconded by <br />Commissioner Innes that the findings shown in the staff report <br />- 3 - <br />_~_ <br />
