Minutes
Planning Commission
5/27/87
GP-87-3, Public Storage, Inc./Southern Pacific Transportation
Company
Application of Public storage, Inc./southern Pacific
Transportation Company to amend the Land Use Element designation
of the General Plan from ~~Public Health and Safety~~ to ~~General
and Limited Industrial~~ for an approximately 1.47 and 4.2 acre
sites located at the northwest and northeast corners of the
intersection of Valley Avenue (extension) and Stanley Boulevard.
RZ-87-3, Public Storage, Inc./Southern Pacific Transportation
Company
Application of Public Storage, Inc./Southern Pacific
Transportation Company to rezone an approximately 1.47 and 4.2
acre site to the IP (Industrial Park) District or any other
zoning district consistent with the General Plan, located at the
northwest and northeast corners of the intersection of Valley
Avenue (extension) and Stanley Boulevard.
Mr. Swift presented the staff reports recommending approval of
these two applications.
The public hearing was opened on Cases GP-87-3 and RZ-87-3.
MS. Kathy Straub, Public Storage, 469 Jensen Street, Livermore,
reported that they have reviewed the staff report and felt it was
done very well. They agree with the recommended conditions and
will come back at a later time for a request for development plan
approval.
Vice Chairman Michelotti asked Ms. Straub if they understood the
conditions relating to the uses and their relationship to traffic
concerns. Ms. Straub said they understand and agree.
Ms. Straub reported that they have a mini-storage facility under
construction in this area and they have tried to work with the
County and Southern Pacific to expand to a super-storage. Since
there is no access other than Valley Avenue, they would probably
propose maxi-storage and perhaps small office facilities instead.
The public hearing was closed.
A motion was made by Commissioner Berger, seconded by
Commissioner Mahern to recommend approval of the negative
declaration prepared for Case GP-87-3 inasmuch as project
approval would have an insignificant adverse effect on the
environment.
ROLL CALL VOTE
AYES: Commissioners Berger,
Chairman Michelotti
NOES: None
ABSENT: Commissioner Hoyt and
ABSTAIN: None
Mahern, Tarver and Vice
Chairman Lindsey
- 10 -
