The public hearing was opened. <br />Tom McCarthy, 259 f~~ottinger, represented the application. He <br />said he asas not aware of a violation until October 26. He said <br />taco days later he had corrected the situation. He described his <br />landscaping operation and said he would like approval to store <br />from ~t~ to ?5 bareroot trees in gallon containers for use on <br />future sites. He said he has moved all his. equipment and <br />vehicles except for one truck that he drives daily to a <br />different location. However, he does not have access to slater <br />on the second site which is needed for the trees. He did not <br />think the trees created a problem for the neighbors and thought <br />the onl y asay the ~ caul d be seen was i f sotr~eone drove i nto the <br />drivewa~. He said that most of tl'ie neighbors were not <br />complaining. <br />Chairman Michelotti asked Mr. McCarthy if he t'iad moved a shed <br />and the boil: of his equipment to a different site. Mr. McCarthy <br />said that he had. He said that on December 9 the inspector said <br />everything was okay. <br />Commissioner Mahern asked hi~T: about the truck: he dri :yes home <br />daily. Mr. McCarthy said it is a one-ton flatbed truck:. <br />Commissioner Mahern asked about the storage of 5#~-?5 trees. <br />Mr_ McCarthy said he usually takes about 5-1Q trees at a time on <br />the truck to various sites. <br />Comcr~i ssi over Hovi ngh asked Mr . McCarti-~y to describe t-e i s process <br />of using bareroot trees. Mr. McCarthy explained that he gets <br />bareroots, plants them in gallon cans and lets them mature for <br />about eight months. <br />L3scar Hernandez? 2?1 k;ottinger, expressed opposition to the <br />application. He felt that Mr. McCarthy's business increased <br />traffic and that the storage of 5C~-?5 trees constituted a <br />nursery. He a>.pressed concern for childrers's safety with the <br />use of a flat bed truck that Mr. McCarthy uses. He felt the <br />increased traffic also increased the dust in the area. He said <br />he opposed any commercial operation tt-:at was in a residential <br />district. He did not think it was appropriate for the applicant <br />to store trees ar:d felt that it could start a precedent. <br />E{ob Harrick , 255 k:ott i nger , sal d he l i ~. ed south of Mr . McCarthy. <br />He spoke in favor of the application and felt that the operation <br />of Mr . McCartt-iy was no problem to the neighbors. He f el t that <br />the applicant lives within his boundaries and is a good <br />neighbor. He felt that the flatbed truck Mr. McCarthy drisfes <br />does not create a probl err+. <br />Chairman Michelotti asked Mr. Harrick: if in the last three ;ears <br />had he noticed a great increase of traffic in regard to <br />P7r. McCarthy"s business. Mr. Harrick said someashat as his <br />employees would come to pick up their checks, but that tt-vey <br />alasays parked on Mr. McCarthy`s property. <br />F'age 5 <br />
