BACKGROUND
In 1983, the TV30 organization was formalized as a public, non-profit corporation with a
three member board of directors. To keep pace with its growth, the board composition
was later increased to 11 members -two appointed representatives from each of the
four Tri-Valley cities plus three at-large members. Several years ago, at the request of
the four cities, the number of city appointed representatives was changed from two to
one per community, thereby reducing the board to seven members. For at least the past
ten years, Pleasanton's city representative has been appointed through the City's
biannual commission/committee recruitment process.
DISCUSSION
In an effort to become more familiar with the administrative and financial aspects of the
TV30 organization, and to better communicate TV30-related issues to the Tri-Valley City
Councils, the mayors of Dublin, Livermore and San Ramon have expressed an interest
in assuming their respective city representative positions on the board. Mayors Lockhart
and Kamena, have already been appointed (by their respective Councils) to serve as
the Dublin and Livermore City representatives. The City of San Ramon has indicated
that Mayor Wilson will be appointed as its city representative when the term of its
current representative expires in April. While Pleasanton's current City appointed board
member is well representing our community, based on these recent appointments
Pleasanton would be best represented by also having the mayor serve on the TV30
Board. This will facilitate a more direct line of communication between the TV30
organization and the Tri-Valley City Councils so that TV30 receives the support and
guidance necessary to ensure its long-term sustainability.
Approved by:
Nelson Fialho
City Manager
