leave balances shall be taken into account in the City Manager's <br />consideration of the request. The City Manager will also <br />consider the City's ability to get the work tasks accomplished in <br />the employee's absence. <br /> <br />During said leave, an employee shall not accrue vacation or sick <br />leave benefits or be eligible for holidays, nor shall such time <br />be considered as service time. <br /> <br />14.2 Extended Medical Leave <br /> <br />Any regular or probation employee who is temporary disabled <br />from work due to a medical condition may, upon written request <br />to the Department Head and the Personnel Director, be granted by <br />the City Manager, a leave of absence without pay for a period not <br />to exceed three (3) months beyond the exhaustion of any accrued <br />sick and vacation leave. With a recommendation by the Department <br />Head to and approval by the Personnel Director, the City Manager <br />may extend the leave for up to an additional thirty (30) days. <br /> <br />The term medical disability includes all temporary medical <br />disabilities including pregnancy, childbirth and associated <br />medical conditions. Total approved paid and unpaid time away <br />from work because of medical disability prior to and after the <br />birth of a child, shall not exceed one hundred twenty (120) days. <br />An employee no longer disabled because of pregnancy, childbirth <br />or associated medical conditions may apply for additional unpaid <br />leave time for the care of the child under the provisions of <br />Section 13.1 above. <br /> <br />Such request for medical leave will be considered only upon <br />provision of a physician's statement attesting to said <br />disability. <br /> <br />During extended medical leave, an employee shall not accrue <br />vacation or sick leave benefits or be eligible for holidays, <br />nor shall such time be considered as service time. <br /> <br />Any employee returning from medical leave shall be required to <br />provide a physician's release to return to duty. <br /> <br />14.3 <br /> <br />Jury Leave <br /> <br />Every employee of the City who is called or required to serve as <br />a juror shall be entitled to leave from his/her duties with the <br />City during the period of such service or while necessarily being <br />present in court as a result of such call. The employee shall be <br />paid the difference between his/her full salary and any payment <br />received by him/her, except travel pay, for such duty. <br /> <br />- 20 - <br /> <br /> <br />
