However, it is reasonable to revisit the options for alternative designs to look for an
opportunity to mitigate the neighbors concerns.
Expansion of the Church
1. The residents expressed concern that the proposed project is actually an expansion
of the Church via the addition of more parking to the site.
Staff Comment
No changes to the existing enrollment at the preschool are proposed, and the
seating for the sanctuary would remain the same.
2. The residents were concerned that with a permanent building, larger in square
footage than the modular buildings, and a multipurpose room addition, the Church
would bring extra activities to its daily operation; therefore, the requested
applications are an expansion of the Church, which could not be supported by the
neighborhood in which it is located.
Staff Comment
The following table shows the activities held in 1999 and the current activities at
Trinity Lutheran:
Activities at Trinit Lutheran Church
1999 2007
Sunday 10:00 a.m. Worship 150 people 200 people
(approved seating capacity: 310)
Preschool Program:
Morning Session: 40-60 children 60-70 children
Afternoon Session: 40-60 children 50-60 children
The reschool is licensed for 99 students.
Weekly Activities:
Morning: Approx. 12 people Approx. 12 people
Afternoon/Evenin ': 15-70 eo le 15-90 eo le
Yearly Function:
Vacation Bible School (one week): 200 students/ 200 students/
90 adults 90 adults
Confirmation Class (45 students) and Boy Scout meeting (40 scouts) are held on Mondays.
Open Heart Kitchen is on Friday Night which would have an attendance of 75 people.
Traffic and Circulation
The appellant and some of the residents on Golden Road and Harvest Circle state that
they are concerned with existing excessive traffic volume on Golden Road. They felt
that the proposed project would bring additional traffic to an already heavily traveled
residential street. They believed that traffic to and from the church should be directed
away from Golden Road, and be routed via Del Valley Parkway.
