Iron Horse Trail North (Santa Rita Road to BART Station — Discussion of Potential
and Preferred Alignments
Ms. Ventura advised that installation of the Iron Horse Trail between Santa Rita Road and Mohr Avenue
is in progress, with the section from Busch Road expected to commence in July. The question now is
"given all the potential constraints, what is the best and /or most expedient alignment to get trail users
from the BART station to the segment at Santa Rita Road ?"
The staff report provided three (3) options for the Committee to consider. Ms. Ventura reviewed these
options with the Committee, and reminded everyone that although this trail would be traveling through
Pleasanton, it would still be an East Bay Regional Park District trail.
Mr. Townsend indicated that he did not believe Option 3 reflected all of his comments made at a
previous meeting. It is East Bay Regional Park District's (EBRPD) desire to align the trail along the
Alameda County transportation corridor "to as great an extent as possible" because the District has the
license to use the corridor. He felt that continuing the trail along a sidewalk was not a good
recommendation. Mr. Wolfe discussed with Mr. Townsend some areas of the Iron Horse Trail in
Walnut Creek that he believed did continue on sidewalks. Mr. Townsend did not believe this was
correct, but agreed to check.
Trails Ad Hoc Committee
June 26, 2006
Page 3
