THE CITY OF ~-~/ - - ~ -'- ~"' CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT ~VVJ j~L£~S~4NTONo March 6, 2007 Police Department TITLE: APPLICATION TO CLOSE STREETS FOR SPECIAL EVENTS DURING 2007 SUMMARY The Pleasanton Municipal Code requires Council approval of parades and special events requiring the closure of City streets. RECOMMENDATION Approve the Annual Special Event Street Closures for 2007 as detailed in this report. FINANCIAL STATEMENT For the first time we have included a financial impact section to this annual staff report associated with the proposed street closures for special events. This information is being provided to give the City Council and the citizens of Pleasanton an estimate of personnel costs connected to street closures in 2007. It is estimated the Police Department will expend approximately 520 hours of overtime on street closures relating to special events this year. The Streets Department estimates approximately 663 hours to prepare for, set up, and then collect miscellaneous barriers, cones, and barricades for the special events listed in this staff report. After calculating the police personnel costs at an overtime rate and the street department personnel costs associated with 2007 special events, street closures are estimated to cost approximately $50,000. This amount has been included in the fiscal year 2006/07 budget.
