She did not <br />understand why there was a sidewalk from Bernal A venue to the store and did not anticipate a lot <br />of pedestrian traffic ti'om Bernal Avenue to Home Depot. She was strongly opposed to the loop <br />road. She believed the "big box" appearance should be changed architecturally and did not want <br />the gas station to be an entrance to the City. <br /> <br />Commissioner Pearce believed the Saturday morning deliveries would interfere with the <br />. . <br />synagogue s servIces. <br /> <br />In response to an inquiry by Chairperson Arkin regarding whether the Commission could limit <br />the type of use so a fast-food drive through restaurant could not be located in the center, <br />Mr. Roush confirmed that the Commission could eondition the use so only hot drinks (such as a <br />latte retailer) could be sold at the drive-through. <br /> <br />Commissioner Pearce noted that she did not support the gas station. <br /> <br />Commissioner Fox did not support the gas station and suggested moving the structure 100 feet <br />over, creating a greenbelt buffer between the center and the synagogue, similar to the separation <br />between Trinity Lutheran Church and the surrounding neighborhood. <br /> <br />Commissioner Maas inquired whether the gas station could be included without it being so <br />prominent. <br /> <br />Chairperson Arkin would support modifying the corner of the tower element. <br /> <br />Commissioner Fox expressed concern about the noise resulting from moving seasonal items in <br />and out of the store, such as barbeque grills. <br /> <br />Commissioner Maas noted that the representative hom I-Iome Depot stated that they would try to <br />do that. <br /> <br />Chairperson Arkin believed the major issue of this project was trafTic, and it was up to the <br />applicant to convince the eommunity that it would not be severely impacted by this project. <br /> <br />Commissioner Maas suggested looking into a crosswalk at the temple for overflow parking on <br />the weekends. <br /> <br />It was the eonsensus of the Commission to delete the loop road. <br /> <br />No action was taken. <br /> <br />EXCERPTS: PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES, January 11,2006 <br /> <br />Page 7 of 7 <br />
