DISCUSSION
The Alviso Adobe Community Park project is proposed to include elements reflecting
three (3) important periods in local history -American Indian, Californio, and dairy
farming. To reflect these important periods, the project will: renovate the existing Alviso
Adobe historic structure; reconstruct two (2) dairy-related buildings to house
interpretative exhibits; provide a visitor center; and, include on-site improvements such
as trails, an outdoor gathering area, parking, interpretative signage and appropriate
landscaping. Once completed, the project will provide unique educational programs
and activities promoting the three (3) historical periods.
Project planning and design have been completed, and the project is anticipated to be
advertised for bids in April 2007.
Preliminary project costs are currently estimated at approximately $5.5 million, including
$4.5 million for construction and $1 million for planning, design, utility connection fees,
contingency, construction management, and design support during construction.
Approximately $4 million in funding has been budgeted for the project, with $1.5 million
in funding yet to be identified.
Staff plans to request a grant of $1.5 million from CCHE to complete the project. The
application process requires each public agency to provide a Resolution from its
governing body approving the filing of a grant application. A copy of the proposed
Resolution is attached for the Council's review.
The CCHE will notify grant applicants of award results by September 2007.
Submitted by:
am s W.
