Policy 1.3: Support strategic expansion and repositioning of existing shopping centers, <br />business parks, and downtown to contemporary retailing and office formats and mixed <br />use development, while ensuring that impacts of expansions are mitigated. <br />Policy 1.4: Maintain open communication between City staff, the businesses community, <br />and the public about the importance of economic development and its link to fiscal vitality. <br />Use innovative strategies including the City website and Community newsletter, as well as <br />formalized ongoing outreach efforts. <br />Policy 1.5: Support the existing network of economic development and workforce training <br />organizations including the Tri-Valley Technology Enterprise Center, Tri-Valley Business <br />Council, Economic Development Alliance for Business (EDAB), Pleasanton Chamber of <br />Commerce, Alameda County Workforce Investment Board, and Pleasanton Downtown <br />Association. <br />Policy 1.8: Continue to work with the business community, public, and other Tri-Valley <br />organizations to streamline business interaction with government including the <br />development approval process. <br />Policy 1.7: Support the location of additional higher education facilities in Pleasanton to <br />expand workforce training and educational /career change opportunities. <br />Policy 1.8: Initiate efforts to attract businesses that reflect Pleasanton's vision for <br />sustainability and strength in innovation, including expanded broadband infrastructure and <br />attracting industries in sustainable building and energy technologies. <br />Policy 1.9: Expand community infrastructure (such as utilities, telecom, transportation, <br />housing, etc.) in order to attracUexpand business and employment <br />Policy 1.10: Adopt sustainability principles as a key component of Pleasanton's <br />economic development. <br />Strateg/es: <br />^ Encourage the development ofhigh-quality, flexible, small and medium-size <br />professional office spaces in mixed-use settings. This space will help retain and <br />expand small businesses, medical and health services offices, law offices, and <br />technicaUscientific support service offices and similar firms. Promote the <br />development of both for-lease and for-sale (office condominium) space. <br />To accomplish this, identify key economic development sites and assess regulatory <br />constraints that may require changes to support and encourage development. <br />15 <br />
