Should we mention "tree lined" streets early as a contributor since they give the <br />community character and we have more trees by far than most cities? <br />[JI]We can add the phrase "an abundance of street trees" to the description in <br />the fourth paragraph on page 1 0-1. <br />16. What about the Pleasanton Arch, it is unique and truly gives the downtown character. Is <br />it not a historical entity too? We mention the Hacienda Drive Arch on page 10-11. <br />[JI] The Pleasanton Arch is included in the list of Historic Structures and <br />Neighborhoods shown in Table 7-3 and Figure 7-4 of the Draft Conservation and <br />Open Space Element. The Pleasanton Arch helps define Pleasanton 's historic <br />downtown. On p. 10-6, paragraph 3, sentence 4 could be amended as follows: <br />"The historic buildings, and the Pleasanton Arch. street trees, many restaurants, <br />special paving, and street furniture, along with unique shops, all enhance the <br />pedestrian scale and attractiveness of Downtown Pleasanton. " <br />17. Page 10-8, Parks, Should the addition the Bernal Grand Park be discussed as a coming <br />community character definer? <br />[JI] On p.1 0-8, under Parks, the following sentence could be added: "In the <br />future, the Bernal Grand Park will be developed and will provide a location for <br />additional community activities. Lakes, wetlands, the Grand Meadow, sports <br />fields and other facilities will be visible from 1-680 and Bernal Avenue. " <br />18. Going to mention the new public restrooms or the Firehouse Theatre for the downtown <br />area community character? <br />[JI] Both are described in the Draft Public Facilities and Community Programs <br />Element under Community Facilities and Cultural Arts. <br />19. Going to mention our two new wineries? <br />[JI] The following sentence can be added to the end of the last paragraph on p. <br />10-11. "The Michael Katz Winery is located at the southern end of Vineyard <br />Avenue, and the future Rubv Hills Winery will be located at the intersection of <br />Vineyard and Isabel Avenues: together with the extensive vineyard plantings, this <br />development reinforces the 'wine country' character of this area. " <br />20. Going to mention our award winning golf course as a community character definer? <br />[JI] The following could be added on p.I 0-2, in the second paragraph under <br />"Edge Environment", before the last sentence: "The City's award-winning <br />Calli'JTJe Preserve Golf Course is located on rolling hills in South Pleasanton and <br />incorvorates HalJTJV Valley Creek and numerous large oak trees. The f!olf course <br />is surrounded bv publicly-owned open space and trails. " <br />21. How about having diversity in our parks from open space, sports to BMX and Skate <br />Parks? <br />[JI] These are described in detail in the Draft Open Space and Conservation <br />Element and the Public Facilities and Community Programs Element. The City's <br />open space edge is described in this element on p.IO-I, and parks are briefly <br />described on p. 10-8. <br />22. Page 10-11, paragraph 3 and 4. Ifwe make such negative connotations about Foothill <br />from the freeway, do we really think that Stanley is beautiful? The trees are dying, the <br />quarry is ugly, and the entrance at Valley is nothing to shout about. What is happening <br />here in the description? <br />[JI] Certainly community character descriptions can be subjective, and if there is <br />disagreement the descriptions can be changed. The second sentence of the <br />paragraph under Stanley Boulevard could be changed to: "Large tr.ccs along <br />
