Consider adopting a Downtown maintenance ordinance. <br /> <br />48. <br /> <br />Encourage merchants to maintain their storefronts, window <br />displays, signage, and adjacent sidewalk area in a neat, <br />clean, and attractive manner so as to be inviting to the <br />public. <br /> <br />49. <br /> <br />Enforce the sign ordinance and design guidelines so as to <br />enhance the attractiveness and historical character of <br />Downtown. <br /> <br />Promotion/Marketing <br /> <br />50. <br /> <br />City to fund ($50,000 estimate) a marketing and promotional <br />effort during the construction of Main Street. A marketing/ <br />advertising firm, individual, or group of individuals <br />specializing in promotions for businesses impacted by <br />construction projects will be secured to work with the City, <br />the Pleasanton Downtown Association, and the Chamber of <br />Commerce to assist existing merchants and property owners <br />before and during the reconstruction of Main Street. This <br />firm, individual, or group of individuals is to be retained <br />as soon as possible and, among other things, would oversee <br />special advertising to make the public aware that Downtown <br />is still open for business during construction, execute an <br />advertising campaign to draw people into the Downtown, <br />develop special directional signage to assist Downtown <br />visitors regarding access and parking. <br /> <br />After the reconstruction project is completed, the City will <br />work with the Pleasanton Downtown Association and the <br />Chamber of Commerce to hire a Downtown coordinator (funded <br />by the City) for up to two years following the completion of <br />construction. This position would be responsible for <br />coordinating advertising, promotions, and maintenance; <br />retaining existing and recruiting new businesses; and acting <br />as a liaison between all parties. <br /> <br />51.
