Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council:

BACKGROUND

The Iron Horse Trail from Busch Road northerly to Santa Rita Road consists of two distinct
phases. Ponderosa Homes' obligation, as part of its adjacent tract development, is to
construct Phase I of the Iron Horse Trail from Busch Road to Mohr Avenue. The City, in
partnership with East Bay Regional Park District (E.B.R.P.D.) was obligated, as part of
receiving Grant Funding from ACTIA, to build Phase II of the Iron Horse Trail from Mohr
Avenue to Santa Rita Road. On December 6, 2005, Council awarded the contract to the
lowest responsible bidder, McGuire and Hester for Phase II construction. The subject project
consisted of constructing a pedestrian/jogging trail from Mohr A venue to Santa Rita Road
along the existing abandoned transportation corridor. Included in the project was the
installation of a pedestrian crossing beacon at Mohr Avenue, landscaping, and an irrigation
system along the trail corridor. The Phase II portion of work has been completed and is now
ready for acceptance. Ponderosa Homes' schedule shows Phase I being completed the end of
December/beginning of January.

Upon City Council acceptance, the City will forward a detailed cost estimate to East Bay
Regional Park District for reimbursement of their share of the costs ($100,000) and grant
funding allocated under Measure B ($450,000).

BUDGET

Project funding and estimated expenditures, are presented below:

FUNDING
ACTIA GRANT
City of Pleasanton Trails (CIP No. 017037)
East Bay Regional Park District
TOTAL

$450,000
$326,730
$100,000
$876,730

EXPENDITURES
Design and Bid Support (Estimate - see explanation below)
Construction Contract
Change Orders (I through 9)
Construction Services (survey, material testing, soil sampling, P.G.&E.)
TOTAL

$68,000
$716,730
$16,843
$27,553
$829,126

SR 06:190
Page 2 00
