MCGINNIS <br /> <br />CIVIC ARTS COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: <br /> <br />That the City Council approve the purchase of the painting "Bucket of <br />Bolts," at a cost of $2,200, for the City's fine art collection. <br /> <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION: <br /> <br />Staff concurs with the recommendation of the Civic Arts Commission. <br /> <br />SUMMARY: <br /> <br />On June 20, 2006, the Civic Arts Commission Award for Artistic Excellence <br />selection subcommittee chose "Bucket of Bolts," the work of Hayward <br />Artist Ray L. McGinnis, as its award recipient for 2006. This made the <br />painting eligible for purchase under the auspices of the City's Fine Arts <br />Lease/Purchase Program. Public input regarding the acquisition of the <br />painting has been highly favorable. The Civic Arts Commission, at its <br />November 6, 2006 meeting, voted unanimously to recommend purchase of <br />the painting for $2,200. Funds are available for the purchase in the City's <br />Public Art Acquisition Fund. <br /> <br />Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council: <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />On March 5, 2002, the City Council approved the establishment of a City Fine Arts <br />Lease/Purchase Program. The program is designed to enable the City to acquire high quality, <br />locally produced fine art, which can be displayed at City Hall.
