Continuing Discussion Regarding the Proposed VaIlev-wide Public Art Proiect - "Art
Takes Place"

Mr. Jorgensen noted that at the May I, 2006 meeting, the Civic Arts Commission had reviewed the
proposal for a collaborative Tri-Valley public art project, "Art Takes Place". Lynne Baer, arts consultant
and representative of the Dublin Fine Arts Foundation, presented the project, advising that she was hoping
to include the cities of Dublin, Livermore and Pleasanton. The proposed project would place a series of
temporary public art projects in each of the communities. The projects would be chosen through a Public
Art Selection Committee and Project Advisory Committee comprised of representatives from each city.

The Commission was advised that the proposed project budget is $250,000, with each ofthe three (3)
cities being asked to commit $30,000. Mr. Jorgensen advised that Pleasanton funds could be allocated
from the City's Public Art Acquisition Fund. Additional funds for the project would be raised from
private and foundation sources through the efforts ofthe Dublin Fine Arts Foundation.

Ms. Baer reviewed with the Commission aspects of the proposal and project fundraising. Ms. Baer
introduced Martin Inderbitzen, chairperson, Dublin Fine Arts Foundation.

Commissioner Scotto was excited about the possibility of working with neighboring communities, and
likes the idea of doing something showy and temporary. She felt that the $30,000 requested from
Pleasanton was a small amount for a project that would offer a big impact. Commissioner Scotto did have
concerns, however, because of the many projects that the Commission is already working on.

Commissioner Seebach also liked the project concept and the idea of working with other cities, but had
concerns about being asked to donate $30,000 for a project where the artwork was an unknown. He was
concerned about Pleasanton's other funding requests and the timing of this project. Commissioner
Seebach wondered if this project would be competing with other art interests that the Commission was
working on.

Mr. Jorgensen informed Chairperson Nelson that the $30,000 requested could be allocated from the City's
Public Art Acquisition Fund, which currently has a balance of approximately $350,000.

Chairperson Nelson expressed concerns about how this project would fit in with Pleasanton's Public Art
Master Plan. She also questioned whether the City of Livermore had agreed to participate in the project,

Civic Arts Commission Minutes
June 5, 2006
Page 3
