<br /> <br />r <br /> <br />'I <br /> <br />4L <br /> <br />'- <br /> <br />pLEASANTONc <br /> <br />SUBJECT: <br /> <br />City Council <br />Staff Report <br /> <br />October 3, 2006 <br />Parks and Community Services <br /> <br />APPROVAL TO PARTICIPATE IN "ART TAKES PLACE" <br />REGIONAL PUBLIC ART PROJECT <br /> <br />CIVIC ARTS COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: <br /> <br />At its meeting of June 5, 2006, the Civic Arts Commission recommended <br />that the City Council approve the allocation of $30,000 from the City's <br />Public Art Acquisition Fund for Pleasanton's participation in the "Art Takes <br />Place" regional public art project. <br /> <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION: <br /> <br />SUMMARY: <br /> <br />Staff concurs with the recommendation of the Civic Arts Commission. <br /> <br />The Dublin Fine Arts Foundation has invited the cities of Dublin, <br />Pleasanton, and Livermore to participate in a regional public art project <br />entitled "Art Takes Place". The project would include a number of <br />collaborative events and culminate in the year-long display of several <br />temporary public art works in each participating city. The art works would <br />focus on themes related to the geography, history, and uniqueness of the Tri- <br />Valley area. The project would be guided by a Steering Committee <br />comprised of representatives from each of the cities and arts professionals, <br />and monitored by each agency's Arts Commission. Each participating city <br />is requested to contribute $30,000 to the project, with the Dublin Fine Arts <br />Foundation committed to raising additional funds from grants, contributions, <br />etc., to achieve a total project budget of $250,000. The cities of Dublin and <br />Livermore have both committed the requested $30,000 to the project. <br /> <br />SR 06:200 <br />Page I <br />
