<br />r <br /> <br /> <br />6E <br /> <br />- III <br /> <br />pLEASANTONc <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />City Council <br />Staff Report <br /> <br />August 15,2006 <br />Planning Department <br /> <br />SUBJECT: <br /> <br />Discussion on whether to include the development of a Fire Sprinkler <br />Ordinance to the City Council 2005-2006 Work Plan <br /> <br />STAl?F RECOMMENDATlON: <br /> <br />Staff is seeking direction from the City Council before initiating the creation <br />of a new code section(s) amending the Pleasanton Municipal Code. <br /> <br />SUMMARY <br /> <br />The Planning Commission voted unanimously to have staff develop an <br />ordinance requiring fire sprinkler systems for new construction including all <br />new residential development, additions and retrofit to existing residential <br />units, and all new commercial construction. <br /> <br />Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council: <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />Over the past year, the Planning Commission has been discussing at various hearings the need to <br />have an ordinance which would require that all new construction to install fire sprinkler systems. <br />The Planning Commission requested staff bring information to them detailing the differences <br />between the City of Pleasant on's and the City of Livermore's requirements with regards to fire <br />sprinkler systems. The Planning Commission also requested to hear a presentation from a <br />representative of the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department on the benefits of such an ordinance <br />on the health, safety and welfare of Pleasant on residents. After hearing that presentation, the <br />Commission voted unanimously to recommend initiating an amendment to the City's Code. <br /> <br />SR 06:205 <br />Page I of 4 <br />
