Livermore and
Pleasanton are coordinating the project jointly at a cost of $51,609.
Pleasanton's share is $25,804.50 plus a contingency $2,500 (10%). Project
funding is recommended from the City Equipment Replacement Fund
(042900-4383).

SUMMARY:

The cities of Pleasanton and Livermore are conducting a study of their
existing radio systems. A request for a proposal process has resulted in
the selection of Macro Corporation to conduct the study. This report
recommends City Council approval of Pleasant on's share of project funding.
The contract is attached to this report.

Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council:

BACKGROUND

The cities of Pleasanton and Livermore (cities) jointly own and operate an 800 MHz Motorola
SmartNet Trunked radio system that was originally purchased in the late 1980's. The system
consists of a single five-channel repeater site located off Doolan Canyon Road, just north of
Interstate 580 in Livermore. The City's operating system and some equipment were updated in
the early 1990's. In 1994 both cities entered into an intergovernmental agreement for the shared
use of this equipment that includes a provision to equally share in the cost of system upgrades.

SR 06:207
Page 1
