<br />"'\ <br /> <br /> <br />4" <br /> <br />pLEASANTONc <br /> <br />City Council <br />Staff Report <br /> <br />August 15, 2006 <br />Assistant City Manager <br /> <br />SUBJECT: <br /> <br />AUTHORIZATION TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH <br />MACRO CORPORATION FOR WIRELESS COMMUNICATION <br />CONSULTING SERVICES <br /> <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION: <br /> <br />Staff recommends the City Council authorize an agreement with Macro <br />Corporation for wireless communication consulting services. Livermore and <br />Pleasanton are coordinating the project jointly at a cost of $51,609. <br />Pleasanton's share is $25,804.50 plus a contingency $2,500 (10%). Project <br />funding is recommended from the City Equipment Replacement Fund <br />(042900-4383). <br /> <br />SUMMARY: <br /> <br />The cities of Pleasanton and Livermore are conducting a study of their <br />existing radio systems. A request for a proposal process has resulted in <br />the selection of Macro Corporation to conduct the study. This report <br />recommends City Council approval of Pleasant on's share of project funding. <br />The contract is attached to this report. <br /> <br />Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council: <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />The cities of Pleasanton and Livermore (cities) jointly own and operate an 800 MHz Motorola <br />SmartNet Trunked radio system that was originally purchased in the late 1980's. The system <br />consists of a single five-channel repeater site located off Doolan Canyon Road, just north of <br />Interstate 580 in Livermore. The City's operating system and some equipment were updated in <br />the early 1990's. In 1994 both cities entered into an intergovernmental agreement for the shared <br />use of this equipment that includes a provision to equally share in the cost of system upgrades. <br /> <br />SR 06:207 <br />Page 1 <br />
